On Sunday 8th December 2013, the members of Surfrider Eastern Beaches teamed up for a beach clean-up at Gordon’s Bay, New South Wales. This was the second beach clean-up we have hosted and although there was only 4 of us, it was still a big success.

We spent a good hour scouring the rocks underneath the boat ramps and managed to collect 5 big garbage bags full of rubbish. Sadly (but not surprising), the majority of the litter was plastic bottles and polystyrene 🙁

On the positive side, it felt really good to be able to collect that amount of rubbish and remove it from such a beautiful beach. It was a good deed by all and I think I can speak on behalf of everyone involved that we all left there satisfied with what we had done.

The Surfrider Eastern Beaches branch got their hands dirty today and cleaned up Gordon’s Bay. 5 massive garbage bags full of mainly plastic bottles and polystyrene. It’s amazing how much rubbish gets littered and washed up all along the beautiful beaches of Sydney. Next time you go to the beach, make it a habit to pick up 3 pieces of rubbish. By doing just that you’ll be making a huge difference. #surfrider #sydney @take3cleanbeach via gregbeazley

Here’s a collection of the photos from the afternoon.

Background:

Surfrider Eastern Beaches branch was founded by Ryan Pawell and I in 2012 after realising there wasn’t a Surfrider representative for the protection of one of the most popular stretches of coast in Australia. Although still in it’s infancy, we are keen surfers, passionate about the well-being of the environment that affects our playground.
