Ok, so since last year when I participated in Do It In A Dress, I always had the idea of gathering my buddies and going surfing in a dress to raise awareness and money to give girls in Sierra Leone access to education.
This year, I decided it was going to happen.
But, to be quite honest I just thought it would be a couple of my mates getting involved. Now, this is not the case.
By making a few phone calls, meeting people, writing a few emails, tweeting and Facebooking like crazy, and of course the assistance of Hero Talk (One Girl’s PR agency), my little ‘mole hill’ of an idea is now becoming a mountain!
I’m predicting approx 50 people will be at Bondi Beach this Saturday, 6th October at 8:30am, wearing a dress and with a surfboard in hand – all in support for the girls and women of Sierra Leone!
A M A Z I N G !
I’m so overwhelmed by the support and interest we’ve had for this event and I’m truly inspired by what we are all capable of achieving with just that little bit of effort.
I mean, think about it. For the sake of us wearing a dress for an hour and being a social media butterfly (like most of us are already), we have the power and influence to put a girl in school, who would otherwise not have the opportunity to do so. That, my friends, is blimmin’ incredible.
To all who have been a part of the Surfing In A Dress idea so far, I would like to thank you! So far we’ve managed to put 5 girls in school for a year. You’re all legends.
I’ll see you Saturday.
